Dr. Nick Dawkins is an educator, executive leader, author, researcher, and strategist with more than two decades of experience helping schools, nonprofits, public systems, and community-based organizations build stronger conditions for student success, leadership, belonging, and institutional transformation.

A Career Built Across Schools, Systems, and Communities

Dr. Dawkins’ career began in classrooms and school communities where the stakes were never abstract. He has served young people and families across Colorado and Texas as a teacher, principal, instructional superintendent/executive principal, principal manager, district leader, state deputy chief, nonprofit executive, adjunct and clinical faculty member, researcher, author, and founder.

As a Denver school leader, he helped produce outstanding academic growth, strengthen culture, stabilize enrollment, and expand student-centered programming—leading in environments shaped by race, history, pressure, and community expectation. He went on to serve in senior leadership within one of the nation’s largest charter public school networks, supporting leaders, staff, and students across multiple cities, and taught in educator preparation at Metropolitan State University of Denver, including work connected to clinical practice and student placements across Colorado.

Scholarship & Research

Dr. Dawkins completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with research focused on Black school leaders, institutional pressure, racialized expectations, retention, and the conditions that shape adult sustainability and student outcomes. That scholarship continues to inform his writing, coaching, and consulting.

Brightspan — Coaching, Consulting & Curriculum

When Dr. Dawkins left Colorado, his work operated as the LLC Civitismo. As he returned to this next chapter, that work evolved into Brightspan Coaching, Consulting & Curriculum. Through Brightspan, he supports schools, nonprofits, public agencies, and mission-driven organizations with executive coaching, strategic planning, board support, program design, curriculum development, crisis communications, community engagement, and student success strategy.
